When two people come into counselling together the dynamics change. Counselling with individuals involves coming to a better sense of oneself. Counselling with couples includes coming to a better sense of another. It will be vital that each of you feels equally heard by me and that there is a clear understanding of my role in assisting the two of you.
The primary task will be to understand what each of you wants from counselling and whether or not they amount to the same thing. Once your wishes have been established we can see how to proceed.
If you have already determined that there must be an end to the relationship, mediation can help resolve contentious issues quickly and with grace, especially when there are children involved. Mediation is a different process than counselling; the structure, timing and fees reflect this. I am happy to offer a preliminary consultation so that you understand what this entails and whether or not it is appropriate for you.
